Cosmetic Massage Therapy & Medical Spa Technician Program

This program combines training in cosmetic massage therapy and medical spa therapy with knowledge of the structure, function and movement of the human body, musculoskeletal disorders, massage theory, techniques, and treatment, the kinds, types, and forms of massage therapy that compose cosmetic massage, hydrotherapy and therapeutic modalities, medical spa procedures, hygiene and infection control, business, ethics, massage laws, and professional practices.

There is a growing need for cosmetic massage therapists who are not only skilled in general massage therapy but also in spa services and treatments specific to medical spas such as lymphedema, hydrotherapy, specialized massage procedures, and massage body rejuvenation.

This program will provide knowledge of cosmetic massage therapy with specific training in medical spa treatments and medical spa operations.  The medical spa industry is growing with hundreds of facilities operating in the state of Michigan, and thousands nationally and worldwide.

This program will prepare the student to enter the medical spa field.  Techniques will include lymphatic drainage, sports massage, facial massage and body rejuvenation massage.  Upon completion, students will have the skills needed in the medical, dermatological, resort, destination, day, and medical and cruise ship spa arenas.  This program is the first half of a two part training program that provides one certification.
